Course overview
Thank you for your interest in the non-medical prescribing module. Attendance dates are given for each cohort above. Please note full attendance is mandatory. In addition, students need to complete 90 clinical hours of practice, of which a minimum of 30 hours are to be spent working directly with the Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP).
This is short professional module validated by the Nursing Midwifery Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, and Health Care Professions Council. It prepares qualified nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, therapeutic radiographers and advanced paramedics for independent prescribing, and diagnostic radiographers and dietitians for supplementary prescribing.
The module is delivered in one induction day plus 12 study days (with an additional two half-days for exams). Teaching days are 9am-4pm, requiring full attendance and all students are required to undertake an additional 10 blended learning days (not timetabled). The proportion of online to onsite attendance will vary between cohorts, but we monitor full attendance for both. In addition, applicants may find it beneficial to complete a health assessment module prior to undertaking the non-medical prescribing programme, for example, advanced assessment skills for clinical practice.
Please note, the deadline for each cohort is 4 weeks before the first day. Applications go to the employer/sponsor on submission, and reach LSBU only after the employer has confirmed sponsorship within the application. Applications must arrive at LSBU at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the module.
We no longer offer HEE funded places for pharmacists, you will need to be sponsored by your Trust or self-funded.
